This week has been another really busy one. Most of the work has gone into building the team pages, the forum and the mail functionality. All these parts are finished now.

I want to take a little time to tell you something about teams. A team is a group of players that fight together to get to the top. Forget your individual rankings, it's always much more fun to work together with friends to beat your opponents.

There are two types of teams, public teams and private teams. You will need a password to join a private team, while anyone can join a public team. So if you have your team members picked out, it's best to start a private team and share the password with your friends. While others might prefer to meet new people in a public team.

In the end a team can give you a serious edge in races and arena fights. Together you pack more firepower and that might just give you the edge you need.

43.82% :: Random weapons & tooltips

The random weapon generation is finally finished. Some complications arose while building the algorithm. It took longer than expected. That and an unexpected pause in development slowed things down a lot.

However, Things are back on track and since development has been picked up again 10% of the total work has been done to come to a total of approximately 44%. Apart from the weapon generation system in the background, the market, storage and garage pages have been built and are fully functional.

In the mean time a lot of tweaks have been made, extra side panels have been added, the menu is rearranged, but most importantly, the tooltips that were already available for buildings, have been added to researches, weapons and players. Connected to the player tooltips, icons that display player ranks have been added as well as a team abbreviation. While the team pages are not built yet and you can't go in races yet, these parts are already 100% functional. Additionally the points calculation has been added to the server code and is in effect.

Bottom line, we're back on track and progressing rapidly. I will keep you posted.

I am very happy to announce that RoadRage just successfully moved to the new domain. Of course the title bar gave it away for a while already, but there were some struggles with the domains DNS settings.

All is set up though, so from now on, use RoadRage-game.com as your URL. For now, the old links will still be working, but it is best to update your bookmarks, because that won't always be the case.

Back to the work at hand. The past few days have been all about the weapon generation code. While the biggest part of the code was finished the last time I posted a news message, a lot of more work has gone into it. Mainly into balancing it all out. This is one of the parts that can make or break the game, so it just has to be perfect. Admittedly I underestimated how much time this would take, but it wouldn't be wise to rush this.

I can assure you however that there is progress and the next steps will be more visible to the alpha testers again.

As a last note I want to thank Evergreen and Jo_16_2 for posting the first bug reports. Your input is very helpful and more and more required once the game develops. So please keep em coming!

31.28% :: About the weapon system

the past few days a lot of work behind the screens has been going on, ranging from designing of rank images to constructing the database structure to building the code to generate weapons.

That last thing is what I wanted to tell you more about today. RoadRage will feature randomly generated weapons, calculated by an advanced balancing script. The script ensures that the weapon pricing is fair compared to the actual quality of the weapon. Of course as soon as these weapons appear on the market (sold by players), the free market system will take over.

Now this system ensures that every weapon is unique in it's own way. Therefor RoadRage will feature limitless amounts of weapons.
Let's take a step back though. What do you actually have to look forward to? Your car can be equipped with various types of weapons. Medium range automatic weapons, projectile launching weapons, miners and short range weapons. Apart from that you can pick your cars engine and equip it with shielding. All these parts are made by the leading corporations. One of which you will have to sign a contract with throughout the game. The corporations all have their specialties. One corporation can be focussed on range and speed for example, while the other focuses on raw damage dealing capabilities.

These specialisms show in the different series of weapons the corporations carry. Every series has it's on specialism and every weapon generated within that series will excel in that aspect. In the end it is up to you to decide what corporation you trust to bring you to the top.

Back to the work that has been done. The code to generate these weapons is almost finished and will soon be put into the running server code. The next thing on the to do list is building the weapon inventory and car pages, immediately followed by the market page.

What ever happened to RoadRage in 2008?

It's been a long time since the last message. Work has stood still for a while, but we're back on track. The new server was set up fairly quickly, but due to different priorities not much was done the first half of this year.

However, the last few months there have been a lot of additions. The research pages are fully finished at the moment. This is including the development page, which shows what researches have been finished and displays the multipliers they add up to. A panel for the researches has been added to the right side of your screen. And last but definitely not least, the tick code for the researches is written and running, so that your researches will actually progress.

Also, as of today, you might be reading this news message on the RoadRage Portal! Yes, the portal finally got a makeover and looks a lot better now. You might see that, like the in-game pages, not all the links are working yet, it's still a work in progress, but much easier on the eyes.

All in all, RoadRage is picking up speed again and hopefully there will be a version ready for beta testing soon. Keep checking in!
